The WindSmith Academy, an educational institution of the American Wind Power Center in Lubbock, Texas, is offering
wind power introductory classes. Classes are scheduled three
times a year with a limited number of students in each class due to
the specialized nature of the course.
This comprehensive two day school will cover the basic tenets of wind
power generation and give students the opportunity to climb the Center's 50 meter Vestas wind turbine tower.
Completion of these courses will provide a learning experience for those interested in continuing their education in more formal wind power classes at area universities or colleges.
After this school, anyone interested in working in the wind fields will have the experience to determine if this exciting field of employment is best for them.

Others who need or just want to learn about this new field of energy can learn how wind turbines work, what land areas are best for their use and what wind is needed to make wind turbines perform best. Other topics of interest covered in the school include the history and transition of wind turbines, wind turbine erection, electrical transmission and how utilities interface with wind farms.
